Vera Margaret Purvis Jack

Biographical Information: VERA MARGARET PURVIS JACK, born c.1899 in Calcutta, India, died 1954 of cancer in Rhayader, mid-Wales, buried in the Wright family plot in Tyldesley Cemetery, Tyldesley, Lancashire, England. Memorial window in Chowbent Unitarian Church, Atherton, Lancashire. "A very loving and generous person as well as highly intelligent and courageous" per her husband's niece Wendy Walsh (see OA. 344), who was also one of her bridesmaids. Lived with her husband in the only remaining “long house” at Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd, Wales. Married (14th February 1924 in Holy Trinity Church, Brompton Road, London), as his 1st wife (he married 2nd (8th May 1956 at Blaenau Ffestiniog) Nancy McLean Cook (born 28th March 1917, died 3rd June 1994, buried in the Wright family plot at Tyldesley) who played for the Welsh Ladies' Golf Team (1938-72) and was Welsh Ladies Champion seven times), Marcus Thurlow Wright (born 31st July 1896 at Chowbent, Lancashire, died 17th March 1994, buried in the Wright family plot at Tyldesley), who served with the Royal Flying Corps in World War I, was taken prisoner, was held at and ? escaped from (sp. ?) Mötzminden Prison Camp, ? Germany, (? possibly Holzminden Prison Camp, Holzminden, near Hanover, Germany), served with the R.A.F. in World War II, having no children. [Note 1: See OA.343 and OA.344 which refer.] [Note 2: Holzminden Prison Camp at Holzminden, near Hannover, Germany, was famous in World War I for the Great Escape of 29 British officers by a tunnel on 24th July 1918, with 10 of these reaching safety, including a Lieutenant S.S.B. Purves. Marcus Thurlow Wright was not one of the escapees from this camp on this occasion].
