JOSEPH PURVIS, born 17??, probably c. 1730, probably at Ford, Northumberland. Emigrated (c. mid 18th century) to Fife, Scotland, where the family had regularly sent their sheep for wintering, and purchased (c. 1770) the small estate of Lochend, 2½ miles from Dunfermline, Fife, to which his elder brother Alexander (1.1.1.) succeeded at his death. He died unmarried, having no issue.
