Robert Bruce (bruce) Purvis
Biographical Information: ROBERT BRUCE PURVIS (BRUCE), born 5th April 1879 at 16 French Street, Darlinghurst, Sydney, New South Wales, died 20th December 1924 at Hillston, New South Wales. He was a gold miner at the time of his marriage (1903) and then an engineer at the Great Cobar copper mine, but by 1914 he had a farm and a bush pub at Coonong, New South Wales. In 1916 he had The Family Hotel at Carrathool, New South Wales, in 1919 The Lockhart Hotel and then The London Hotel in Ardlethan, New South Wales. In 1923 he moved to The Club House at Hillston, New South Wales, which his widow continued to run, replacing the wooden structure with one built of brick in 1929. "A forward-looking but easy going man". Married (30th December 1903 at Cobar, New South Wales (registered 1904)) Rose Florence Risby (born 10th January 1879 at Cuddell Creek, New South Wales, died 2nd January 1967 at Glenfield, New South Wales), daughter of George Henry Risby, who owned cattle stations and river steamers along the Murrumbidgee River, and his 1st wife Eleanor Roberts, having two sons:-
