Biographical Information: LOUISE DEMAR PURVIS, born May 1895 in South Carolina, died (probably) 6th March 1971 (? aged 81) in Norfolk, Virginia. Graduate (1911 and 1913) of Howard University, Washington, D.C. Per the 1900 census she was aged 5 and living with her parents at 145 Spring Street, Charleston, South Carolina. Living (1987) in Brooklyn, New York City, New York. Married Hiram Lewis Bell Jr, physician at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Manhattan, New York City, descended from the African-American Bell family of Charleston, and Sarah Johnson (Sally), matriarch of a free family of color, having three sons:-
