Biographical Information: JOSEPH PURVIS JR, born c.1829 (? 1839), died 1906. [Note: Given his mother's birth date (1814), the birth date of his next eldest brother (1840), and the fact that he still required a guardian in 1857, a birth date c.1839 seems more likely than c.1829)]. His guardian, after his father's death (1857), was Jesse G. Webster. Served (1864-65) with B Company, 43rd Regiment, in the American Civil War, but was invalided out and subsequently applied repeatedly for a pension. However, by habitually turning up drunk for the physical examination, he failed to impress the army doctors! Unmarried.
