John Purvis
Biographical Information: JOHN PURVIS, born ? 1787 in Dalgety Parish, near Inverkeithing, Fife, Scotland, baptised 10th February 1787 in Saline Parish, Fife (with his grandfather William Cairns as sponsor in the absence of his father), per family records reputed to have been killed 1809 at the Battle of La Coruna, Spain, where he was a Cornet or a Medical Officer in the British Army. Or alternatively he was a hospital mate in the British Army, became assistant surgeon to the 15th Foot and died (15th June 1812) at St Kitts, West Indies. Probably unmarried. [Note: Victoria Mary Younghusband or Tucker (see 1.1.3.5.2.1.8.1.2.1. below) has a portrait of him in army uniform (red tunic) but with birth date given as 1798 on the reverse].
