Edith Mary Winifred (winnie Or Edje) Purvis

Biographical Information: EDITH MARY WINIFRED PURVIS (WINNIE or EDJE), born 15th May 1860 possibly in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), died 3rd March 1950 probably in Hawaii. Lived in Bruges, Belgium, until 1878 (a sampler sewn by her in 1872 and inscribed "Bruges" was (1992) with Victoria Mary Younghusband (see 1.1.3.5.2.1.8.1.2.1. below) her great-great-niece) when she went with the family to Hawaii and then (August 1882) to Java, Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), with her father, where she witnessed the eruption of Krakatau (August 1883), was at Soedimara (Sudinara), near Batavia (Djakarta), Java, in May 1883 helping to look after the children of her uncle Thomas Intveld Purvis (see 1.1.3.5.2.10. below) and was still living (1884) with her father while he managed a rice plantation called Koeripan, near Buitenzorg (or Beutenzorg), Java. Married 1st (14th April 1887 in the home of her sister Wilhelmina Cornelia Purvis or Ratard in Paris, France) Edmund William Holdsworth (Perkyn) (born 1856, died 1897) who worked for T.H. Davies and Co., Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, and also designed postage stamps for the Hawaiian post office, having one daughter:-
