Florence Forsyth (poupee Or Patouque) Purvis

Biographical Information: FLORENCE FORSYTH PURVIS (POUPEE or PATOUQUE or TOWKER/TOWKS), born 4th July 1866 in Brussels, Belgium, died 5th November 1950 aged 84 at 4 East Castle Road, Edinburgh, Scotland. Went (1878) with her family to the Hawaiian Islands, governess to the children of Mrs Sam Wilcox of Lihue, Kauai (1882), and then went (1883) with her mother and younger sister Beatrice Constance Purvis (see 1.1.3.5.2.1.9. below) to Cooerwull, Bowenfels, New South Wales, home of her mother's relations John and Cassie Brown, and thence to Java, Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), to rejoin her father. She was still in Java in 1884, but returned (c.1888) to Edinburgh with her mother and sister Beatrice Constance, and, after her mother's death (1888), she and Beatrice Constance lived with her mother's aunt Jane Marshall at 85 Great King Street, Edinburgh. In her old age she lived in a convent at 88 Strathearn Road, Edinburgh. See A Scottish-Hawaiian Story, written and published 1994 by Nancy Oakley Hedemann (See OA.55). Married (23rd January 1893) Frank Campbell Younghusband (born 7th January 1851, died 16th May 1894 at Folkestone, Kent, England, buried at Brompton Cemetery, London, England), Commander Royal Navy, Superintendent of the Royal Gun Factories and inventor of the Vickers Machine Gun, holder of the Egypt and Alexandria medals and the Turkish Order of Osmanieh (2nd class), second son of Charles Wright Younghusband (born 20th June 1821, died 28th October 1899), Lieutenant General Royal Artillery, whose mother's (Frances Romer of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, born 1789, died 16th December 1843) mother (Frances Marshall of Edrington, Foulden, Berwickshire, Scotland, born 1762) was sister of Florence Forsyth Purvis' great-grandfather Joseph Marshall of Edrington (see 1.1.3.5.2.1. above), and therefore her third cousin, having one son:-
